Joel's Story: A Shower, a Scream, and a Roof Done in One Day
Joel Rivera was in the shower when his wife screamed: water was coming through the ceiling. The cause was up top, where a storm had damaged the shingles, and what happened next is why he made this video: True handled everything from the beginning to the end with the insurance, step by step.
Mitigation came out for the water damage inside, removing the wet ceiling and walls, treating the area, and running dehumidifiers and fans. The adjuster came out, the insurance gave the okay, and the roofers came the next day and did the job in one day, which genuinely surprised him. His favorite part of the completed project, in his own words: "it ain't gonna leak no more, the job is done." He would recommend True to everybody, and if he could take them to Puerto Rico, he would.
When a roof leak becomes a water damage job too
Joel's story shows the two-front reality of a real leak: the roof problem above and the water problem below. Wet drywall and insulation do not dry themselves inside a closed ceiling, and mold can establish on wet building materials within 24 to 48 hours. That is why proper mitigation removes what is soaked, treats the area, and runs drying equipment until moisture readings say done, before anything gets rebuilt.
Step by step: what an insurance roof job looks like from the homeowner's side
- Document the leak and the damage the day it happens: photos of the ceiling, the room, and the roof
- Get the intrusion stopped (tarp or emergency repair) so the damage does not keep growing
- Report the claim to your insurer; mitigation for the interior can start right away
- The adjuster inspects and the scope gets agreed; your contractor's documentation does the arguing
- Once the okay comes, the roof work itself is often the fastest part, sometimes a single day, like Joel's
